Happy Monday, or whatever Monday you choose.
“You'll be swell! You'll be great!
Gonna have the whole world on the plate!
Starting here, starting now,
honey, everything's coming up roses!”

It’s Monday, and you are large and in charge. You prepped the night before and are an efficiency machine. Your power suit is ready to go and you are primed to conquer. Everything seems remarkably clear and you do not have to wear any masks today. You have accomplished a lot and are not afraid to shine. Since everything is going your way, you allow your playful side to come out. You have so much energy and are ready to knock out your to-do list.
But, and there is always a but – at what cost. Are your friends and family complaining that you do not spend time with them? Maybe it’s lonely at the top. You have been really busy because you are getting things done. All work and no play right? There have been many scientific advances, but unless I am mistaken, we are still human beings and have not been cybernetically advanced on a mass scale. As humans, those social connections are not just optional, they are necessary. If you work in a vacuum, it is easy to lose context. You may start to rub people the wrong way. There is also the flip side to the wild success of having too many “friends.” Perhaps they want you to celebrate continually. It is always a balancing act. Are you surrounding yourself with supportive people or enablers? Have you set clear boundaries?
Perhaps this is the manic part of your cycle. You are up, up, up until you hit an obstacle or challenge. Or maybe you feel like a pretender. Perhaps despite all the productivity hacks and planning, you are still not getting the results you would like to see. Don’t give up. What is this teaching you? If everything is actually coming up roses, how did you get there? What will allow you to sustain this momentum. If you are working furiously and feel like a rat on a treadmill, how did you get there? What lessons have you not learned? What will you do differently to break this cycle? Perhaps you can reverse engineer your life and adjust your course accordingly. Pay attention to the little things. I woke up ready to go. I had started off my to-do list of waking up thankful and was getting ready to work out. I heard a door and assumed someone got to the bathroom before me. I went from roses to rage in under one second. The sound I heard was someone leaving. No one was out to ruin my day. That was all in my head. I did not get angry at myself, I paid attention. This is a trigger. What will I do differently next time?
What's next? Who do you want to be? Can you see your success? How do you get there? Are you organized? Do you have a plan or is it hit or miss? Your success depends on you. It is not up to your boss, or your workplace, or your parents, or your significant other. It is up to you. You are the boss of you. What decisions are you making in You Inc? Are your goals sustainable? Do they allow you to enjoy the life you are trying to create? Are you working to live or living to work? When you plant the right seeds in the right soil, the harvest is abundant and produces the seed for the next planting. I’m ready to ride in on my own white horse and rescue myself. Are you?
