Hello Subscribers. My weekly writings will help you prepare for the week and set yourself up for success. Insights are gleaned from various intuitive tools. I hope you were able to expand your horizons and explore beyond your four walls last week.
How are your energy levels as you prepare to begin the week? I’m in a mixed place. I had the privilege of attending part of the Interracial Sisterhood Retreat, and being surrounded by warm, supportive women from all backgrounds really helped to fill my emotional, mental, and spiritual cup. Living with a demanding cat has left me sleepy. Perhaps some of you plan to take some time off this holiday season. What kind of vacation will you have? An episode from Greg McKeown’s podcast stuck with me when he discussed how people use vacation to recharge instead of recharging regularly. Instead of spending the first day of your vacation recharging to be able to enjoy your vacation, what if you could start it fired up and ready to go? When I returned to work, I promised myself that I would not return to my old ways of burning the candle at both ends. In the past few weeks, I have journalled more, taken walks, and also enjoyed meditation. This week I want to figure out how to get back to my thirty-minute decompression practice. How will recharge daily this week?
There is so much going on currently in the world. It can feel selfish to rest and renew when so many of our fellow citizens do not have that luxury. How can you build a yes/and for resistance that includes rest? You can support your fellow citizens worldwide; it does not have to be done twenty-four-seven. I love the idea of a relay. We spoke about networking and being open to global perspectives in the last two newsletters. You do not have to take the weight of the world on your shoulders. Millions of people are fighting the good fight, and if we all work together, we can fight and rest. If you are part of an Employee Resource Group or an affinity group at work, I’m certain you still have your regular job to do on top of it as well as social and familial obligations. I can’t think of anything that runs all the time without resting. Even the sun sets. Yes, I know that sun doesn’t magically disappear but stay with me. As the sun rises and sets, so does our energy level. It is challenging, but if you take the time to rest, you will be able to accomplish more than if you run yourself ragged.
There is a proverb that the bigger dog gets fed. Which dog will you feed? A "Yes" to something could be "No" to you, or a "Yes" for you may mean a "No" to something else. I love the idea of a work/life symphony versus a work/life balance. How can you conduct all the various instruments in your life to create a harmonious symphony? How flexible or adaptable are you to life’s curve balls? What can help you build those muscles? I am going with the analogy of a weekly budget and the envelope system. You get a certain amount of energy to pay your metaphysical bills every week. You can plan how you want to allocate it for the week, but give yourself a buffer if you need to shift the funds around. Make sure to pay yourself first.
If you have reflected on your energetic budget and how it lasted during previous weeks, you may notice that you need to make some cuts in the budget. There is an old spiritual that I love, and the lyrics are “glory, glory, hallelujah, since I laid my burdens down." What burdens can you lay down this week to make room for what you want to accomplish? What burdens will you lay down to make room for rest? Trust yourself to invest wisely. Sometimes we take on responsibilities that are not ours. Reflection helps you to understand what you should take on.
As you start this week, do not forget that you are not powerless. If you have networked and built your community, then you know that we are powerful together. Life is the summation of our choices. Every moment we can decide how we want to respond to what is and is not in our control. If you do the same thing this week, you will get the same results. What will you do differently? How will you be accountable? Feel free to hold me accountable about my decompression sessions. Also, this coming Friday, December 22nd, at 6:30 pm, EST, I am hosting a LinkedIn Audio Event to allow us to Scream and Shout and Let it all out. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/scream-and-shout-and-liget-all-out-tickets-778629430587?aff=oddtdtcreator
Namaste.
